Newc. race run ten minutes earlier saw Out The Ring (STO from Kempton race) unsupported & well beaten by Brocklesby runners despite owner Fretwell at course. Desert Auction also from that race and drifted from 6/4 before some late support. He became the 3rd 2yo from Kempton (the 2nd-4th) to be beaten STO & that form looks suspect. No excuses for him as he made a good break, held behind the pacemakers to a good T3 trip. Unable to make progress in the straight & faded late on. Just not good enough. Shark Man from the Brocklesby made 1-2L on him to 2nd to add weight to the view of the Doncaster race being better. Both were comfortably beaten by FTO Soccer (6/1 to 10/3) who was much bigger than either of the other two. The trainer started a Group class 2yo in the race in 2008 who was too green to win. Soccer was competent and looked a better physical type than that one. A horse to take seriously in higher grade and you would worry about the placed horses being just early season placers. Beckett's Any Day pressed Soccer & faded to the straight (both his 2yos have faded to date). Super Duplex limited but competent. Blue Zephyr a niggle about the rating level. He was 10+L adrift +1f & 8L at Hf. Perhaps he is Ok given where he finished... |
