216mm of Rain previous day after long dry period. Races on straight course explore all of course over day. Other than a better strip CLOSE to the Stands' rail difficult to suggest there was any notably bias. KK step up to 8f and jockey said afterwards they had run him at 6f before because he was a free going type at home. Intention was to let him lead here & get him to settle after 1F to get home. Jk said he felt they had gone a good pace early. Given that background, and the GGS going, the way KK pulled clear without being asked was surprising. The time only the 3rd below 100s since 2004 and into the range only Listed+ horses do on GF, let alone GGS. KK did run the rail and probably a faster strip there but still this looked a high class performance & up to competing well in Group races at 2yo. |
