SUMMARY
Faster time and only 0.06s slower than the 3yo maiden on the card with this winner carrying 6lbs less. But, conditions probably faster and the equivalent race in 2009 won in 71.07s on a, laughable, official GF going call.
Pace a bit too strong and produced a very informative, and diagnostic, set of Halfway positions versus final placings. Looking at them the first 6 at halfway were within 2L of the lead with DS & WL racing too freely from early on. The first 5 at halfway fold back through field in last 1F as they faded. How far back they got an indication of underlying ability (power reserves) as pushed through the filter of racing strongly. WL ran a bit better than 5th reads given how free she was early on (wasting power reserves through not being relaxed and moving inefficiently). TFOS a tractable type and on the borderline for racing too strongly at over 2L off lead. Had shown ability to hang on well off a stiff pace last time at Warwick and show similar here. Probably OR60s so not up to winning a normal maiden but usable in Auction races.
KC & Fastada in 8-9th fade more than they ought to have done starting from around 3 to 3.5L off lead. 15th & 16th at halfway were Rafella & PP & both well adrift and just got into the worst of the faders late on while never being in the race. Which left the softened up TFOS as the target for the best of the closers from the 8th to 14th group at 3-6L off the leader at halfway.
MD a better type in context of weak race and race professionally and settled and able to plug on to win with a little comfort. Presume OR75+. EMuse start from further back and a quieter ride overall and similar forward move in last 2F as winner and going on at the finish so Ok promise at her level. One of first runners for Walter Swinburn who prefers development with racing to wired FTOs.
Disappointing effort by Looksmart as Hannon 1st string and that stable's 3rd string in 4th feels like some sort of Changeover Point.
Race traditionally moderate for the most part and the few usable OR72+ fillies normally get to the front. The exception being the odd Hannon debut in the past who developed better. Despite the fast time last year only the first two home were usable OR75+ and the 3rd-5th, for example, unable to win sellers later in the year.
Margot Did one of two Breeze Up purchases from Newmarket in April to win on the day. The Bonus payments on offer perhaps getting trainers interested in strong debuts from those types. Videos of both the breezes (pre sale 2 Furlong Gallops with the last furlong at faster pace and often times) are available on the Tattersalls website. Viewing both would give a positive view of the tractability and professionalism of the two which they carried through to their debuts. Margot Did given a quiet breeze and not really pressed for full speed but did it comfortably.
Fifth Commandment, & Rafella to a degree, more negatives to add to the form of the Rimth maiden at Windsor after the defeats of Byrony (Bath) plus Good Morning Dubai and The Thrill Is Gone at Sandown.
