What was going on with the Draws Here? Stalls 1 & 3 not run. Stalls 2 & 4 press on early and form the leading pair that hooked up to set a pace that was too strong. This pair within a Neck of each other at halfway and only BBullet at less than 2L back. All three of these faded notably to support the view that the pace was too lively for the leaders to last home. Stall 5 was a clueless runner that was adrift in the last pair and never got into the race. Stall 6 was Blaze On By who seemed in reasonable spot on the rail at 5L off the lead at halfway. But no response at halfway and outpaced then dropping back soon after and before the later race fades should occur. Welsh Inlet in 7 & miss the break worst of field then run freely in getting back to midfield and a likely later race fader on that. Probably the case that the draw had no effect and just an artefact of a number of factors interacting. Despite shape of race best two fillies seemed to get to front. NCS tiny and a poor favourite. Stepping up in distance on a steep track not look best for her set-up after and ok run but outpaced by Inagh River at Nottingham. That race looks suspect and was effectively one solid filly (Inagh River) comfortably dealing with some small, nippy, ones and some bigger ones who were too slow or green. Need one of the biger fillies to develop well to produce a later winner. The 2nd, 4th, 7th & 8th have run later to produce one 3rd place (in a 4 horse affair). BBullet limited and probably needs slower 6f test and perhaps 7f+. CDiamond 2nd place not look a fluke. 50/1 because not betting connections with moderate 2yo record. Nothing in the pedigree either. But, one of the biggest and travelled pretty well in 4th at halfway (just over 2L back). Got to lead comfortably and clear into the last furlong but head went up and hung right (again). Since the other two placed horses did the same this may well have been getting to the funnel of the enclosures with crowds and noise on both sides. Get involved in a Head-up no-you-go-first 'tussle' with TL later and just lost out. Inclined to take positive view that she can improve. Tipsy Lady ran a different race. Head up and looking green and difficult to ride from the start. But able to make comfortable progress at the same time as CD but from about 6L further back. Got to clear 2nd than the head went up again. Look gawky and difficult for jockey to press her forward and would not have got by a more knowing opponent than CD. Typical solid debut effort for trainer who gets horses notably fit FTO. This may help to explain his solid Bath debut record (a 40/1 winner in 2009 to add to various FTO places). Many Bath races end up going too fast and allowing closers and the fitness helps them to close or stay involved. Another who can rate higher with more nous. Difficult to get too excited about the others or look for future winners. Danzig's Gandchild & Welsh Inlet worth cheking for development. DG in the adrift pair early but able to get back to the group of faders by 1F out and sustain that plugging on to the line. WInlet run too free after a slow start and into the early pace.Trainer not press much for 2yo winners and more of a develop with racing type and handicap set-ups. But the earliest runners often contain the odd usable one. |
