SUMMARY
Market not suggest Cape To Rio a better one and Dane O'Neill took over from Pat Dobbs who had failed to get to the course. CTR always travelling best and left with a rail run as Saucy Buck & Bajan Bullet rolled away from it. SB & BB seemed to be beaten by two bigger and better horses and confirming the view then are probably OR65-73 types with limited scope. SB poor value having been supported from 11/4 in the morning and 6/5 on course. Faded early and made winner look better. BB had never run a quick time and suspect on quicker ground here. Looked a little unwilling in taking time to load. Led early but never going as well as the first two home and hung right and faded later on. Looked to move a little scratchily late on and overall not seem fully happy on the day.
Hannon won race with Monsieur Chevalier last year. CTR unlikely to be that good but a taking performance travelling comfortably from an early stage and pulling clear unpressed. Perhaps a Prince Of Denmark or Vienna's Boy type that the trainer has had debut winners at the course with before. OR90+ at some point but not the best quality type. Would win a conditions race and compete well in something like the National Stakes but come up short at Royal Ascot.
Cochatchee looked the biggest in the field and a bit mentally green earlyl but able to keep with the pace because of his size and aided by a rail run. Clear second best and unbalanced at times which looked like him struggling to carry his size. Trainer can struggle to turn promise into quick wins but definitely and OR70+ type with potential.
Races on straight course suggest an advantage racing on stands' rail. Despite draws BB ran away from the rail and was offering to hang right from early race and eventually let go and hung fully right 2F out and headed. Cocohatchee the biggest & leggy & unbal at times but ran the rail and never stopped. SB race 1-2 lanes off rail but never going the solid pace comfortably. Niggled early, driven along by halfway and then hung right at 2f out perhaps following BB but outpaced anyway & smaller than first 2.
Cape To Rio crossed over to the rail before the end of the first furlong and always going notably comfortably at 2L off leader at halfway. Switch out to lane 1 to get past Cocohatchee and take lead inside 2F out. Go on strongly to the finish.
Major Return broke well and 3rd early. Dropped back after 1.5f with head held to right. Jockey not appearing to Drive, use whip etc. Problem with the tack? Check the BHA site for a 'Why They Ran Badly' report. Presume better than result and worth another check.
Enrichment small but never put into the race. Given a quiet, educational ride. Nothing proved and check if usable at a low level.
Bishops Moon cross over the rail at back of field early and inexperienced overall. Another that look unbalanced at times. Another poor debut for the trainer who once was a 'Ready FTO' type.
Night Witch clueless and adrift early towards centre track.
