SUMMARY
Stalls Far Rail of Guineas Meeting Strip. Field race Centre to Stands with Koha alone Far Side for 1.5F before going over. Average pace to halfway with first 7 fillies at that point within 2L of lead and first 11 just over 4L. PH off back at 8L and SP adrift at 11-12L (got back to 8th at the finish). Pace pick up just after halfway as Googlette join AS in lead having sat 0.5L off her before. Pair respond and kick the race off early. General shape of race was then that these two pulled clear with CD & OWOL taking a bit of time to respond and get to clear 3rd & 4th in gap back from leaders. Majority of others some form of outpaced (perhaps green as well), before stalling and fading. Appeared to be two good ones pulling away from an OR80+ one (CD, solid finish after taking time to get organised) and a OR70 one (OWOL, head in air in sire style as getting through to 4th). Those in the ruck from 5th back need to improve notably and have an excuse of some form not to be OR60s & worse.
Al Sharood took trainer Zarooni's record with STO runs to 2 wins from 3 goes and both winners improved notably off non-competitive debuts. The STO beaten was Ahtoug who ran on the far side at Newcastle and not quite last out 6f in finishing 3rd.
Googlette the 2nd strong debut by a Vaughan 2yo this year in better maiden. Does not do strong debuts so ought to be a good sign. Video of race worth watching because Googlette looked huge as soon as the race started and going comfortably just because of her stride length. From early on it was clear she was going to be trouble for the others. Went like the winner towards the last 1F and worried out of it as she stalled late (still moving fluently) by a tenacious Al Sharood on STO.
Faster time and big gaps from 2nd back suggest this might be a very strong performance by the first two. Estimates given high for debut so check how they work out but initially inclined to take a positive view of the first two.
Taking OWOL as a suspect OR70 and not up to winning an Open Maiden any behind that might be more likely impovers? Bakoura given an easy time once 5th and ought to be a prime improver type. Royal Liaison another to be green and given easy time and represents solid trainer. Might well be Low OR70s and improve STO. Eljowzah not appeal as improver. Spanish Pride lost ground from being in group after 2F for no obvious reason other than being immature. Real response to plug on intot he faders and going on at finish. Jockey Mongan (Cecil rider) giving Queally (on Cecil's Wafeira) some rabbit as he went by that one. But low level of form and see how she goes STO. Wafeira lose 5L at start but recover comfortably as Dettori settle pace after 1F. Ran green and hanging when asked for effort before fade. One you trust the trainer to bring back better STO.
More promise than her position appears from Volcanic Dust and appeals as being more value going forward than the likes of Wafiera & Bakoura (who will probably be dropped to weaker maidens for their STO peaks so may not be value SPs). Travel Ok with pace and made a little bit of progres sinside 2F out and got to be challenging for 4th even if she did not quite get there. Faded badly and hence the poor final place but some excuse as had run freely early in the race. Appeals as an EW STO improver.
