SUMMARY
Trainer Richard Hannon Jun. said after race he was pleased Eucharist had come back well from a tough race here LTO. Did best of the pace pressers there (as she had in other races) but beaten by better fillies ridden more conservatively. Trainer worried it might have left a mark but Eucharist very game here and had to extend here effort right to the line to get past Master Macho (able to set his own pace in the lead).
Couple of points to note behind. Trainer John Hills has a poor record with 2yos and unlike some trainers lack of usable 2yos not a valid excuse. Converting promise into wins seems a real struggle. 2009 gave a couple of examples with Itwasonlyakiss & Spa's Dancer and both are still maidens at 2yos with declining ORs. Remotelink some excus ehere because blocked in and then hampered but never in a position to compete to win and moderate response when clear anyway. Along with Major Conquest we already have two, bigger, promising colts who have now run 5 times for no win. Can he convert either. On the other side we have the Hannons winning this with a filly on 4TO that they had found the right place for. Add to that jockey Hughes got her to a competitive position from a poor draw and got the job done. Master Macho is another struggling to win but Channon gets a win with this sort by sheer persistence. That is not a negative. Channon has a particularly good record of running horses a lot at 2yo and onwards but they still have long career (in a week when Youmzain ran his 20th consecutive Group 1 - unlike Seas The Stars a horse that really has nothing left to prove).
Midnight Feast the first runner of the season for Peter Winkworth and ridden by Jim Crowley as the Ok ones usually are. Trainer has featured in FTO P&L on the site but a Loss in 2009 after 3 years of profits. His record is odd in that you could have made a profit in recent years backing all his flat runners of any age. 22/1 and jockey did nothing after he made a 3-4L slow start. 20L+ adrift at halfway and raced centre with jockey looking down at times. Got back to the fading weak ones for no encouragement.
