SUMMARY
Average pace at best and moderate changes in Halfway positions to final placings. Black Moth given a soft lead and lesser effort to get to lead from wider draw. Race turned into a 2F sprint and nothing really show up as doing anything much different as the first 8 home came home as a bunch. Bit of spreading out and fading but nothing remarkable. BM still green and able to get 2L clear off front having been less than a length clear at halfway. Coing home ok but greenness turned into being unbalanced 0.5F out (typical at Bath as horses come into funnel with crowd on both sides and open expanse beyond the finish. Can rate better with stronger pace and more nous.
Postscript supported but not distinguish himself in this race shape. Took a long time to get to second past lesser types. Heavy build but an odd shape and not convince as speed horse here.
Solid effort by FF and Catlin (typically) did something different in making places before halfway as the pace was slacker to get from 10th to 3rd for less effort. Just an average effort 2F out and stalling 0.5f out. Probably below medium and race not look strong overall.
DV confirm debut promise but looks or 56-64 type.
Kojak has a suspect attitude and that hindered the jockey in this race where pressing on with him and leading or pressing BM for the lead would have been a better option. Dobbs replace Hughes. Hughes had said after second run that he had to ride Kojak after being unseated by him on debut because he could not ask one of the other riders to do something he would not. He had tried to nurse Kojak home STO after he got to the lead inside the last 1F. He said he had felt the horse put a hump in his back and start to flash his tail when in the lead so had sat quiet. The inability to do what he wanted with Kojak hindered Dobbs here. Held him back out of the leading line early and then got shuffled back as the pace stacked the field. Unable to find clear run in the last 1.5F until switched to centre track later on. Dived left behind other horses as Dobbs pressed for an effort and eased. Has more ability than he showed but unable to trust him at present.
Minor interest in Aurivorous who travelled on through the race and unable to find a clear run and drifted home. Better than she showed.
