Field race Stands-Centre. Average pace at best with the large (and strong but surely not a 6f horse) Reachforthebucks able to set an unpestered lead fired up by being in blinkers. Field spread over just over 3L at halfway with all travelling ok. Final time seem above average given the pace with the, confidently ridden, Neebras pulling comfortably clear. Ratings for 2nd & 3rd possibly a little high and check how they go in maidens next time. Neebras make a very good debut at Newbury for David Lanigan chasing home Hannon's Strong Suit & that horse touted as that stable's best Coventry Stakes prospect and won the maiden that Canford Cliffs (& Major Cadeaux) have in recent years. Lanigan an ex-Godolphin assistant trainer and trains for many Dubai 'Associates' owners. Which meant his quality would come to the notice of Sheikh Mohammed and he presumably made them an offer they couldn't refuse (in monetary terms or perhaps just as the Boss in Dubai). The Sheikh here along with usual entourage (had other horses such as Holberg running later on card) and surrounf horse and Dettori after win. Presume he will run in the Coventry. Just a medium size (smaller than Strong Suit in each spatial dimension) but very fluent mover. Has a real ability to make a forward effort that is probably a bit better than it lookes because he does it smoothly. Hannon's had won race for last 2 years and typically start 2yos capable of rating OR80+ in these late May & Early June 6f maidens. CP touted as being very good and supported against Neebras in the weak morning markets. Reality kicked in closer tot he race and Neebras shortened up in the manner expected of his debut and circumstantials. CP not look a 'Strong Suit' in review and too green to put in a strong performance at his own level. Disappointing effort by Oliver's Gold and Perrett 2yos have not progressed STO in typical manner so far. Salvationist completed his 3rd run and might have done enough to qulify for a handicap mark. Trainer has record of finding 'improvement' in this type in handicaps. Small and mentally young and OR60s at best and has not run anywhere near that level but will probably get OR62 (check) anyway. Jockey not doing anything in last 1f+. |
