Stalls Far Side and field race along far rail. Likeable effort by the winner and seemed to confirm view that the front of the Carlisle race she ran in FTO was solid (Despite Button Moon underperforming next time). Gave a classic frontrunners' effort going a little freely and breaking the others one-by-one. Willing attitude and balanced mover (less so after changing lead leg into the last 1f) and still going forward at the line. Seemed to make ground well to 1.5F out. Mixed bunch behind and several warnings about believing the Market knows even 50% at times of what is going on. Tilliemint talked up as one of her trainer's best 2yos at times (supported both runs) but form OR60s at best and similar effort here. Competent and tried hard but comfortably dealt with and not seeing the 6f out fully. Second Encore another notable shortening of a Stan Moore 2yo to no obvious purpose. Smaller than the first two and dropped behind them while they worked at a mostly usable pace. Which means she was going to have to be much better than them to get past them. As it happened nothing much happened when she made her effort and made less than a length on Tilliemint and did so late on as that one stalled. Crown Ridge has been entered in Sellers. Channon does this sometimes because they underestimate the ability or the owners (often Box 41) decide they want to keep it. Dropping to a seller with some trainers might mean OR50s garbage and worse. With Channon it might mean OR60s usable ones. Presume this one will run a lot in Nurseries and try to win off something in the OR60s through persistence. Sky Falcon another indicator of how the Market knows very little about what to expect from a Mark Johnston debut other than at the extremes of ability. Trainer has not had a 2yo place yet (on any run) and only one ok debut (by Jibaal in a tough race). But, this one is 9/2 presumably on the basis that he is a big stable and this one is Arab owned. The Market in guessing mode and being cautious. Sky Falcon mostly clueless and a typical Johnson 2yo in that it is bigger than the others, but leggy and a bit narrow and surely not a 6f horse. Solid pace completely found him out for basic pace and an indication that the Johnston homework at home does not prepare them for this sort of test. Some can respond on ability but others can blow out and hence the variability in FTO results that leads to Johnston 2yos being difficult to 'read'. But, an ok size and more a Galloper so one that could improve for 7f+ and less pace pressure. A cheap buy passed on to Jaber Abdullah so ought to be an OR70+ winner of some sort. Interesting if he turned up in a Sandown 7f maiden for example. |
