SUMMARY
Other jockeys allow Fallon on EP to walk to the lead and then set a slow pace and allow him a length for free. Which turned the race into a just under 2F sprint and little in the way of changes of position. EP comfortably clear and Fallon not fully ask him and still HnH and looking back inside the last 1F. Ask him for an effort late on and pull a little further away for a comfortable win.
Bunce ran his typical race and not really look a full 5F sprinter and has been comfortably outpaced when he runs into OR82+ types.
GT given an odd ride. Broke first on the rail and in a good spot. Jockey seemed desperate to drop him in so hauled him back and drop in behind EP then switch left further. Ended up on the outside of the group by halfway away from the favoured rail and still running too freely. Similar forward effort to Bunce as the efforts went and probably headed that one. But stalled late and not finish race off. Typical 'Bits & Pieces' of promise type the trainer has that rarely develop to put a full race together and win.
Sweet Cecily run the rail and 1.5L off lead at halfway. Outpaced by 2L+ as the efforts were made and dropped to at least fourth and might have been headed by QA. Respond in the last half furlong up the preferred rail to close back past the stalling GT and join the eased (Hughes typical) Bunce on the line (just in case there wasn't one in the race for Bunce to 'bump into' the Hannon's are bringing their own along as well).
QA first runner of season for Gary Moore and for the owner who has provided most of his quality runners in recent years. Trainer has had a debut winner for the owner in each of the last 3 years. But, Market said this one not ready and given a non-involving ride. Lose 5L at the start but an indication of the pace set (and probably his ability) that he was able to jog back onto the group without a much effort. Took a bit of time to settle and held 4L off the lead (behind slow pace) so no chance to win. Made a similar forward effort to Bunce & GT before getting unbalanced into the last 1F and eased off. Looks the part and the biggest in the field and strongly built. Hinted at solid ability if he can shift his weight. Looked like an educational debut in a race set-up that did not allow much progress. The 'Market' really should be informative next time because either he is pretty good and will be targetted at a STO win or he struggles to move his bulk well and will be more of a Nursery project.
Qenaa run in centre track and green at times and unable to sustain any effort after a brief response. Another moderate debut by a Johnston 2yo in and he has only had 12 runs this year with just one finish better than 5th (2nd in a 4 runner race..). This is well down on previous years although the stable does tend to build slowly and develop well through July to peak performance in August & September.
