SUMMARY

Field race in narrow group of only 5-6 lanes through halfway. Boundless Spirit in lead about 10 lanes width wide of stands' rail. BS hook up with Metropolitan Man early and perhaps race a little freely together. But neither ever really travel strongly and stalling by inside 2F out and finish very tired. Stone Of Folca race within a length of this pair and going much better towards 2F out with jockey waiting to challenge presumably because he does not want to inherit the lead that early. Front pair stalling so early give SoF a problem.
Halfway positions versus final placings suggest a pace which broke the front two. Those in 3rd (at less than 1L at halfway) and 4th-5th (2-3L back) able to battle for lead after leading pair fold but unable to get home strongly and stalling and fading themselves in the last 0.5f. This allowed the strongest closers to be getting into the stalled 'Pouncers' (MC & Excello rolling home together with SoF already fading back from them having gone like the best horse through mid race) by the finish. Petronius Maximus probably 10L+ off lead at halfway and challenging for the lead by the line. Chilworth lad a little further back at halfway. Pair choose different routes to progress around stallers with PM swicthed left to runs close to the stands' rail and CL right to run close to centre track.
