Slow time and in 2009 OR70s filly Fly Silca Fly ran quicker on SHV going. Useful Here Now And Why ran 61.98s on GF in equivalent maiden. Indication of how earlier season times reflect the lack of development in horses (& therefore the WFA upgrades during the season). Race traditionally the starting point for the best of the Tim Easterby fillies going back to Pipalong & Romantic Myth in the 1990s. Ran a Colt here instead unusually and one they bred from a relatively expensive filly who was injured on her debut here as a 2yo. Cocktail Charlie a medium size but very deep and bulky and strongly built. Immature and fizzy in the prelims. Trainer said in interview afterwards that they knew he was above average. Also noted about the buzzed-up attitude that since they had bred him at Habton Farms this was the first time he had ever been away from there. Settled second rank and made comfortable progress when switched out to go past the leaders inside the final furlong for an unpressed win. Ears pricked at the finish and still looking green. Can tighten up and improve further and a better class one. Not pressed to beat probably, below average, opponents here who may well all be sub OR70s and most much worse. Has the trainer got a better filly this year and if so where will she start? Perhaps he did not have one ready. Has a runner at Doncaster on Saturday in the Class 4 fillies maiden. Pace look just average set by Moderate types and winner travel comfortably behind it. JFL miss break and run freely to get to lead and paid for that by fading. But a typically small, lightly built, Evans type and no particular interest. BK another competent Fahey debut. Show nothing unusual and presume OR60s. MAMS hang across to the stands' rail and run most of race there. Another forward effort from AD Brown who seems to have his moderate 2yos very ready for debut. Probably lack development, mentally & physically as a group. Kheya a Breeze-up but and a little free early in front rank. Looked to be travelling ok 2f out but expired quickly in stages after that. A lot of inexperience behind and a lot of rolling around on the undulations and particularly on the downhill Ramp 1.5f out. Low level of form but suspect 1 or 2 may be better than they showed. Would pick out Blind Stag as a bigger type who ran head-up through the ramp and looked not to handle the course. Received a bit of support so Check NTO. Hoppy's Flyer similar rolling around wide but look less substantial and Dascombe debuts ridden by Richard Smith have been moderate in the past. Unless he has been upgraded he usually points to a Seller type at best. |
