SUMMARY
Solid pace set by GB running a little freely after being niggled along early to get to the lead.
DN bigger type and attend pace. Led before 2F out but seem to stall coming to last 1F. Responded when joined by RD and plug on to line. Showed similar style her on debut when seeming to get outpaced around 1.5F out then responde din the last furlong and finishing better. Suspect this is to do with the uphill climb to a plateau (or much less stiff uphill part) in the last 1F. He seems a lengthener rather than a speed horse so picks up better on the flatter part when he can stretch out fully.
RQ presents a bit of a problem for rating the race. This her first run at 6f after 7 runs where she has struggled to get home over 5f. Reviewed as being a competitive 2yo on debut when not fit but has taken a long time to improve. With hindsight looking at her record you would say she was showing improvement over 5f (often travelled well past halfway but unable to produce much of an effort) and staying on better in the later races. LTO she was hampered in a big Bath field and unable to show what she could do. Her best early run was probably at this track. These non-stayers can blossom when they eventually finish a race off properly (fitness, maturity, or whatever) but not normally when up in trip although perhaps the lesser pace helps. Given the later run of Silence Is Bliss you could say her Redcar 2nd was under-rated (the first race she saw out fully to some extent) but some garbage was too close behind and a race which did not fully spread the abilities out. Estimate rating reflects this an improved run and perhaps worth more. Will she confirm it next time? Interesting to note that jockey Craine on DN while he is associated with the Morris yard and has ridden RQ on most of her outings. A number of the Morris 2yos have given the impresson they travel well but find less than you think (Yeah the classic eg in 2009). RQ look different here and it may be that Craine has a quiet style in the first half of the race that makes it look that way and harder to read what effort they actually have left.
NS supported but is smaller type and not looked progressive. Form of last effort behind Dubawi Gold would not be up to winning a decent seller and a winner from that race would need to be a real improver.
GB a classic Mark Johnston conundrum. Bigger and flashy but has run two shockers fading badly. Ought to be better and up to OR70+ on looks but the form book says he is useless. Ran too freely here but a tame fade even so. Can be a bit of a guessing game with the Johnston 2yos but if he is going to improve it will probably be over longer trips. Perhaps an 8.5f nursery at Beverley at 10/1. The pedigree would suggest he needs time and a bit further. The dam has produced 2 juvenile winners, both over 8f, one went on the win over 10f. Three other winners only managed to place at 2yo. The best known of the siblings is Dalradian who struggled at 2yo but was still showing improved form (OR80s) as a 4yo on the AW this winter. Presumably GB not one to give up on yet.
