No Stalls and a ragged flag start. CD notable as the one that wanted to get on with it and make some advantage from the situation. Started ahead of the others and 1.5L clear immediately & driven along early to consolidate the break. Melodize & LR in a second rank behind CD and form up immediately into the stalkers behind CD. Then DD, MM, Piceno & SB form third rank on the grid and the other three start on the back row and 4L+ down before 20 strides have passed. Melodize the 8th later winner (including the winner that day) to come from the fillies Maiden run at Windsor on April 27th. 8 of the first 10 home that day have now won and the 10th (Kissing Clara) was beaten a nose at Beverley today over 7.5f. The 8th home at Windsor (Ventose) is the only one not to have run since that day. An unusually productive race by any standards. Melodize a fascinating example of how trainer's records keep throwing up the same patterns each year. Mr Muir runs a few early each year but they do not win when they start running. He has only had two juvenile wins before the last two days of May in the last 9 season despite the number of early runs. Each year the wins will start in very late May or the odd one in June and July is when the stable really starts to pick up. Each year a number of those that ran early will start winning after a few runs and at the normal time for the stable. This apparently the first winner for the stable (any age) for some time). Melodize ought to have won before given the race she featured well in on debut at Wondsor but somehow Mr Muir managed to find a way not to win with her until 4TO (typically). On STO she ran into a solid race at Catterick and found that track a bit to fast for her. She then failed to see out 5f chasing a stiff pace on softer going back at Windsor. Whatever, Mr Muir is in some sort of form now and we should start to see hime running more of his 2yos. |
