Field race stands' rail. Slow pace and final time. GT allowed an easy lead to set a moderate pace and 1.5L ahead for free at halfway. Other pair on STO limited and Mystica settle in and Fair Dame too small to go the pace comfortably and not look willing (or moving poorly). 4 on debut all green to some extent and jockeys happy to get then settled and moving forward without bothering about trying to put some pressure on GT. Which meant race developed in a 1.5F sprint and little change in relative positions with one excpetion. As efforts started GT pop off front and FD shelled off the back. Other 5 run in a line of 4 which persisted to the line with Methayel behind them. Methayel get from 6th 1F out to get to 2nd (making 2L on the line of 4 plugging on) 0.5f out. GT owned by the Goodwood Racecourse partnership and John Dunlop always gets them a 2yo that can win. Well behind Memory (a good example of not reading form literally in an even slower race that day) here FTO but clear second best that day. Made quite a taking effort to junp 2-3L clear and win comfortably while hanging. Has the size and reach to believe she might be OR80+ now she has grown. BUT, temper than thought a little with what a soft time she had here in a slow race. And forget about Memory entirely as not relevant to GT's future. Methayel look eyecatching but in a low level performance and getting past a suspect group. Form to treat with a bit of caution NTO and not a 'certain future winner' (whatever that means when the rating level is unspecified) depending on what quality of race she goes to next. By new sire Araafa who has made a moderate start. So Choosy the biggest in the group and a typical Hannon debut (of previous years) and not look a 6f type on this. Presume she will be up to 7F next time and ok prospects. Dobbs rode her with Cosgrove on Paco Belle which might suggest SC the first string but longer SP. Dobbs has already ridden Hannon 'First Strings' this year that have been beaten by Hannon debuts winners ridden by Cosgrove & Fairley so not easy to judge. Suspect SC is the better one over a longer distance. PBBelow medium size and just an ok effort trndling along with the line to the finish. Similar comments about Look Twice. Smaller ond probably OR64-72. Second runner of year for David Simcock. Trainer has changed his methods since he started. Was a 'Ready on Debut' trainer when he started but FTO winners have decreased and a more development approach now. Earliest runners each season do tend to be competitive and have a better than 50% chance of being season winners. Showed enough to think she will be competitive in the OR range. |
