SUMMARY
Bold Bidder one of two winners on day from the ruck of a Haydock maiden that featured a stiff pace through halfway and broke up early because of it on softer going. BB got hooked up in a forcing line of three horses through halfway and faded because of it. Some support that day after a lost debut when too green. No obvious fluke in win here and SP seem to be over-reaction to two well beaten efforts when a solid excuse for the second one of them. In general, taking some note of support for Ryan 2yos in the Market when they fail can be interesting for later runs.
Shape of this race suggest the pace too strong and final time performance affected by that. Tilliemint improved LTO for blinkers and forcing tactics on flat track. High drawn and wanted to do the same here. But, led by BB early and had to make real effort to get to lead after 1.5F and extended this go 1.5L clear by halfway and forcing pace. Moderate move by jockey and forced Tilliemint into going too hard on a stiffer track and she faded notably.
That does not show up well on the Halfway positions versus final placings because the pace pressed hard enough to have the front 5 at halfway clear of the others and those mostly under pressure. Pace set meant only SG able to close to any extent and she was more than 7L behind Tilliemint at halfway and joined her on the line as an indication of the leader's fade. Rest of leading 5 faded apart brom BB who was unable to go with her mid-race move. Which makes the BB effort seem real because he was forcing the pace at times and plug on best. Looked a real trier.
Reposer another of those bafflingly campaigned John Best 2yos. Go and spend some time with the Hannons, John, really. Start off in an Ascot conditions race and run ok. Then do something peculiar looking in a winnable race at Warwick when he drifted in the Market. Next a solid effort at Goodwood in a race that looks strong and reliable at the front. Then come here and, you sort of knew it was coming, and a moderate effort and fading against the pace. Thoughts go back to 2005 when Bertie Southstreet won this race for Best on his fifth outing having already run in two conditions and a Listed race. That remained his only win for another 3 years when he won off OR65. The runs in better races seemed unfounded & just got him too high in the handicap and a 3 year project to fix the OR. No clean plan with the races chosen for Reposer and inconsistent form. Stone Of Folca remains a maiden after 3 runs for the trainer which have hinted at a higher class horse. Give this pair to the Hannons and they would both already have won, you would think, & pocketed a £10k bonus and then having a go in better races.
