SUMMARY
Rail out 10yds.
Mixed pace race. Moderate to average pace for 2.5F with field stacked 4-5 wide in ranks. Crowley on Midnight Feast struggling to hold horse in centre track at this point so allows him to go forward and take lead and cross to rail comfortably. This minor effort spreads field and anumber caught out and find themselves well back. Notably Royal Exchange 5L+ back at halfway on rail and St Oswald 8L+ behind in race where pace held up reasonably well so making ground requiring real forward efforts.
But, overall pace in race enough to spread abilities out and final placings and distances, with one exception, make sense. Two runners from stronger maidens (RE & FTC) clear with MF. Gap back to pair who come from same, suspect quality, Windsor maiden that looked thin on day behind the winner and not producing winners in Open Maidens (at all yet). Field finish nearly entirely in ascending SP order and 6-7th the types that might be usable with development from reliable older trainers (Manasha owned by trainer Dunlop and suspect attitude FTO & better here but odd hints. Cape Rambler a quiet Eyeatcher sort being green then plugging on through the faders for minimal asking but achieving what?). Then into the long tail of 66/1+ SPs with the front of it being one from John Spearing (shrewder older trainer that the Market does not take seriously but gets the winners he should and reliable performances from his 2yos) and the an relatively expensive one for Ian Wood that might be ok but trainer tends to need a few runs with usable 2yos to find the target.
One exception is Midnight Feast at 50/1 and needed a horse as good as Royal Exchange to 'fetch' him back after getting loose. Trainer Winkworth gets regular long priced winners and the Market, while improving, does not really know which are his ok runners. In this case the horse is a solid physical type but people will just read the 'beaten miles' stuff about his debut run in the 2-D Form Book and dismiss him because of the pressure of so much racing. Watch his debut and Crowley never tried to put him int he race. Another example of a horse being well adrift at halfway and showing some ability by getting back to the pack by the finish without being asked to do anything. Some advanatage in getting a mostly comfortable lead but seems a real performance by MF rather than being a 'Run Style' assisted fluke.
