Field race stands' side. Headwind. Alfraamsey set pace on stands rail with Piccoluck right behind him and others race wider of rail. Rail look real advantage. Winner one of a number of Channon 2yos who are running a lot at present with mixed results. If one puts in a poor effort it will be out again shortly afterwards and might well run better if the race plays out well for it. Alfraamsey finish race off poorly last time but look a different horse here. Piccoluck the second solid debut for trainer this week (the latest Budge backed trainer in a string which used to be Vicky Haigh at intervals). Trainer getting debuts more prepared or just some usable horses? Piccoluck had advantage of rail but always travelling 2nd best and a solid size. Lady Royale not progressing and headgear here and tame fade furthest from rail. Another object lesson in how the early season Listed races can often barely be solid 0-85 handicaps in real terms. She was second in the Hilary Needler and has been beaten twice in maidens since. The 4th has been thrashed in an Ascot Listed race and the 7th beaten in a seller. Even if you have learnt to blank out 'Listed' meaning better class the speed with which this year's Hilary Needler form has proved not even stronger OR70s at the front is surprising. |
