SUMMARY
Pace not the full, frantic, 2 level but too stiff for the leaders to get home. Kingscote on HFas first string for stable sem to settle pace ok after 1F but increased the pace too early after joined by Apazine. Pace increasing by just after halfway and everything aside from the front two niggled or fully driven along by 2.5F out.
Halfway positions versus final placings tell the story quite well. The four horses in 6th to 9th at halfway move forward into the stalling and fading first 5 through that point. CB at 5L off lead at halfway with LMT & DV at 7.5L to 8L+ with ME at 10L+ and looking green. Forget about the first 5 through halfway for a moment and CB just made an ordinary effort from 2f out and held off three, long SP, fillies with a couple of them making a bit of ground on her by the finish. Hoh, hum in that sense.
So, perhaps a race, to separate into two streams and then take account of how efficiently each stream ran the race before comparing their relative positions at the finish. In that version you would mark up HF & Apazine as having raced too hard and not getting home. Apazne worth a bit more for racing lane 1 as well. HF a plus for finding some extra effort late in the last 1F to save 2nd from the pluggers on. Supported in Market and this probably an improved effort despite a similar final rating level and check what the Market says next time. Apazine look solid OR71-5 level and not able to run to that here. But, visually, she and HF made the best efforts here but did it too early and faded off being 2.5L clear as a pair to the last 1F. SR one to mark down because she had a good set-up being behind th pacemakers and running the rail. DT limited quality and ran Lane 3 for too long but not one to credit extra for. AA run too wide through race and a coin toss whether to give her another chance. That a real negative to her performance but lost ground a bit early even so.
Two that bumbled along to follow CB (LMT & DV) assisted by way race played out & not look ones to follow

CB a 3rd juvenile winner of season for Barry Hills and stable into form now with two wins this week. Would expect to have at least double that number of wins by now and stable often builds to an August-September peak. CB another debut winner at Chester. Between 2002-7 there were none followed by one in 2008. There were 2 in 2009 and CB the second already this year. Something changed?
