Embarrasing day for the track with a huge, and very obvious, stands' rail bias. All three 6f races won by the front-runner who got to the rail. Neil Callan said after this race that having ridden in the earlier races he knew what to do on KoA. He said he had ridden in the handicap earlier and been drawn 5 of 18 (centre track) and had just let his horse jog up the centre (then realised he might have said something he should not and tried to make it clear he had been trying). Another Newcastle race where the race not play out in a recognisable manner. Those that raced along the rail moved forward as a group in a believable way. But AS & Dortmund expire too early and completely having attended the pace off the rail. Dortmund race a bit too freely as well. UG the second most expensive breeze up purchase of year in Britain. Solid run after being a little green at the start then dirfting off the rail towards the last 1F. Perignon the first, non seller, STO run by an Alan Swinbank 2yo in 2010. Showed enough at long odds from wide draw (switched over to rail early) in a tougher race to think his better types may show the trainer's typical development. |
