Solid, but usable, pace produce a pretty clean race that seemed to spread the abilities out correctly. OS finally fulfil the promise of a very good debut where she front ran at a strong pace. Held up in the Hilary Needler soon after and anonymous. Ran better here 3TO and assisted with pressing a pace which was much too strong. That meant the front runners faded and produced low ratings and allowed a deep closing winner to come from 6L back. The four fillies that pressed the pace and faded that day have produced two next time winners, plus Lady Kildare's second in this race, along with an unplaced run in a seller. The filly that finished 7th that day (Bellemere) was held up and anonymous but went back to front-running next time and broke up a 6f race with useful and solid colts in it with the pressure she applied. Orchid Street able to sit with the pace and lead at halfway and finish the race off fully and show what she could do. LK able to do the same but unable to match the effort of OS. Kevin Ryan seems to get his fair share of fizzy sprinters that seem to boil over at times or fail to see races out by over-racing. RH was an expensive purchase and has started at shorter SPs which seems significant with this stable. She was moderately drawn on debut (although not as badly as Orchid Street, at 28/1 for her first go, who got to the front that day) and gave trouble loading and ran ok until fading. She was then withdrawn at the start at Pontefract on Vet's Advice. Kept away from the other fillies at the start here and with her own handler leading her around. Jockey in the race seemed happy to give her and educational run along at the back and teach her to settle. That much was successful but she looked green at times and to struggle with the pace after halfway as OS pressed on. Made some ground back to the faders but not in any obviously positive way. A case of a better physical type than she has shown and might blossom but hard to see it being quickly on the evidence here. |
