SUMMARY
Interesting race and looked a solid time for the evening. Shape of the result makes very good sense as well despite the pace just looking average. Dettori played his typical game with the pace. Make an effort to get to the lead and then cut to the rail. Then drop the pace and stack the others behind him (he seems to hold some sign ove rmany of the jockeys who just will not go past him, although most will have been told to drop in of course). Which meant a number of fillies running freely and being held after 1.5F and 2 banks of horses 3-4 wide trying to sort themselves out for the bend while Dettori is reading the newspaper having a comfortable time. Moore make a real effort on Jetfire from a wide draw to go forward and then chack carefully before doing just enough to be clear to cut over and join Dettori by the bend (different to Hughes or Spencer who would just let the horse 'fall in' and make ripples behind. Robinson on Jaaryah unable to find a way to drop in so one of those to go 3 wide (i.e. with 3 horses inside of him) around the bend.
But, look at the final result and the pace seems to have produced a result where you can place a Changeover Point and Garbage Gap. Najoum & Jaaryah both solid OR84+ fillies and pull clear with Jetfire Winner worth more for strong finish and wide run and made ground comfortably. One to take seriously. Najoum better than Open Maiden class. Jetfire a good Marker horse and presume OR78-82 type and bumpred into two more here and had problem of wide draw. Less well built than the first two and a somewhat awkward mover who tried hard but holds her head at an odd angle and does not 'Nod' properly.
Jaaryah took Michael Jarvis' record with FTOs in 2010 to 4 wins and 2nd from 6 goes. The other debut was Toolain who was in the process of winning FTO until veering left and unshipping Dettori. Typical for a trainer who has a set of good horses and prepares them thoroughly to get a set of FTOs but this better than usual. Suspect this one would have been shorter SP but for a wider draw. Dettori looking philosophical as she went by Najoum because he can oust Robinson for the ride when she goes up in class.
Look back to the 2009 edition of the race and hannon had the first and second home (winner useful and the other a season maiden with a suspect attitude) . Behinds that pair was a seller winner in third and then a load of maidens. Hannon had the 4th & 5th here with probable OR65-74 range fillies and, in effect, this year was better than last year because there were three better ones in the field than the Hannon reps. So, the Changeover Point is probably in front of Byrony and the Garbage Gap around Huwayit.
Some larger stables represented in the ruck in this race than that for 2009 so there ought to be more that is usable behind the Hannon pair. RW seemed to make a solid debut given the inexperience and see how she develops. Barry Hills had two in behind and, on trainer resord, one of those will be found something they can win. A number given quiet times including Hills' OLL but probably most notably Gay Gallivanter who you would presume will be targeted at a weak maiden next time to try to get the win the Stud would want.
A number look too slow for this 7f and probably more 8f+ developers. Sukhothai outpaced in the straight but an ok size and better for 8f and nurseries. The sort Prescott, rather than Cecil, would have run three times over 6f in two weeks to set-up as a 3yo handicapper. Cecil more likely to try for a Nursery win.
