SUMMARY
11mm of Rain since previous day's meeting. Inner (old NH Chase) course
A big field an presumably partly caused by this being the latest £10,000 bonus race. The money pumped into these races has changed the way the 2yo season has unfolded in some ways. Changing trainer targets. Making some races much stronger than they normally would be and leaving others empty. Range of major stables here and several with solid form who you normally expect to be kept apart and pot-hunting around the lesser tracks as the sole 'Star' in a minor race.
Stiff pace with a pressing line of 6 within 1L of the lead through halfway in a centre track arrowhead. The members of this pressing 6 spread all through the final finishing positions and the feeling that FTC ran very well to find a strong effort off it to lead until headed later on by BOT (settled in 2nd rank alone at around 2L off lead at halfway).
Runners that made a lot of places so looking 'Eyecatching' picking up the pieces to some extent and never in the race. Red Marling a slightly baffling 3rd. Has the pedigree and connections to be ok and has run in races which the trainer has used for tricky ones with ability before. But jockey and SP suggest that if there is any ability there they were not expecting it to show here. RM veering around in rear (6L back) through halfway like the steering was broken.
KK driven along and losing ground before halfway and 8L+ back. Getting back to midfield through the faders. Longer SP but in a tough race. Jockey Callan said in interview earlier in day that the trainer was keen for him to ride this one. They have some sort of agreement that Callan will ride for him when he hasn't got a better offer (based in Newmaret now and rides for Cliver Brittain & Michael Jarvis, for example). Has ridden Ryan's 2yo Group 1 winners in the past. Some circumstantial evidence that KK may be better than this looked.
CPJ another who will get talked up as being 'Eyecatching'. But, another with questions over whether he was making real progress or just plugging on into tired horses after being too slow, and green, to keep up. 9L+ back at halfway.
Bunce attend pacemaking like ok but found no forward effort and stopped very quickly just before 1f out. Breathing problem?
SG lose 2-3L at the start and make some early effort to recover that. Niggles a long a little before the 2F out efforts and minor forward effort for HnH before stalling early in the last 1f. Looked a 'Rusty' effort after a long break of a horse not ready to show his best and more a development run.
Elusivity fractious at the post and look to have some attitude issues. But, better once into the race and a solid size. Attend pace comfortably and good forward effort. Fading late as all the pacesetters did but can develop further for settling down mentally.
RB taking time to respond inside 2F and then hampered 1.5f out losing 1-2L. Took time to plug on and get to 4th through the faders. Closer with a clear run but lacking an quick effort.
