SUMMARY
Rail out 6yds from start until cutaway at 3f out.
Solid pace with usual spread of competent ones in the first group early and a long straggle back. First 5 within 4L of lead at Halfway with EM hampered to be that far back in 5th. StarS at 5L+ and the rest in a long straggle at 7.5L back and more (up to 30L). Hill to the finish often means that making ground difficult and front runners on round course did well at the two day meeting. Little changes in positions amongst the competitive ones in this race aside from the fade by the Johnston horse that lead (his 2yos still not competing to the stable's typical level).
Another £10,000 Bonus race with better looking field. First two home given harder time that you might expect given they were on debut. But a £10k photo finish so the jockeys have to ask more.
Win for Roman Eagle takes Michael Jarvis' record with FTOs in 2010 to 7 goes, 5 wins, one second and an unseat by Toolain when going clear in a similar race here (won STO easily). A trainer who always gets FTO wins and clearly has a solid group of 2yos this year. But, another trainer (to add to Hannon & Fahey) who has made some adaptation to his style because of the £10k races.
Only horse in 8th+ group to make any attempt at another other than a bit of HnH late on was CL as the other Hannon runner in the race. Ridden by Moore rather than Hughes but talked up in early season by trainer and shorter SP. Got behind early after slow start and pick-up through inexperience from a wide draw. Moore make some ground from 3F out to the normal 2F out 'Final Effort' point to get from 10th to 7th and in a position to challenge for the places if the horse picked up well. Only a minor forawrd effort before fading.
Jamhoori look too plain slow for 7f in the finishing efforts. Two Langian horses and Cole's OK give hugely non-involving rides and allowed to get behind. Some minor progress to the group late on but difficult to judge what that amounts to. Final 2f really just the group stretching and folding a little in line with ability and staying power for the day and nothing showing anything 'different'.
Interesting mix of newcomers versus S-3TO runners at finish. None of those with 'Form' shown solid ability and beaten by the best of the necomers. Rest of the debut runners make up the strugglers and 'Fun Runners' (here for a day out) out the back.
