SUMMARY
Rail out by 7yds at 6f post and down to 1 yard at finishing post.
Modest time. OR72 older horse run 71.2s in previous race carrying 5lbs more.
Below Average pace and first 9 through halfway at less than 4L off the lead. MD around 8.5L off lead in last and one of two horses that made notable places in a relatively static race. Only strong fader was RS who has shown up as a fizzy type who runs to freely in races. Notably free To Post (TP) and jockey not attempting to get him under control. Wide range of other jockeys would not have been allowing this to go unchallenged.
But, at least a horse that wanted to get on with it and a difficult race to watch. If you had to produce a list of jockeys that tried to win this, or even get properly involved, it would have those on the winner & RA and then arguing about whether to make exceptions over a couple of others. A cavalcade of 'Tender Handling' otherwise. Mix of green and perhaps not stretching on the ground but a lot of waiting for 'Tomorrow'.
Spokesperson debut run over-rated but allowed to drift out of this race. Broke ok but then shuffled back with the jockey inactive. Switched out to make an effort to 2F out but slightly blocked when he did and eased soon after.
Hughes had said earlier in the day that he would be more confident of winning if the race was over 7f for AB. Allowed to drop second rank and run a little freely early. But, jockey seemed to have decided to leave it today and little effort inside the last 2f. Perhaps judged could not win given the pace and where he started from.
No stewards' questions to anyone recorded. A couple of jockey's noted WTRB reports with MMusic recorded as denied a clear run and SBox as running green. Progress by MDream from last through horses not being asked as much.
Unsatisfactory stuff all round. The sort of race that has you thinking they ought to limit Maiden field to 10-12 runners. Too easy to hide in the ruck in this sort of nonsense and the Stewards do not bother hunting through them for anything other than the obvious. Like a horse jinking left on a jockey and giving the rider a day's suspension for something they have little control over. Why not ask a bit more about active inactivity.
