Slow time on day when track often relatively quick because of major races on card. Overall times in other race suggest conditions not as quick as previous years. Profile suggest an average to moderate field unless some gems hidden in the weaker profiles. Ragged race with a lot of inexperience shown and the bend proved difficult for many. As usual on the tight track the first two home in the first 3 from early and nothing came form behind to threaten to get to them. JHancocks look smaller than other two and bustled up to join leader to bend. Slightly outpaced by the other pair inside 2F out and fade badly late like a non-stayer. Trainer Hannon debut winners in early season usually up to early Listed class at least and this one given a Hughes 'Trial Ride' to see what he could produce having got to the lead without being pressed. That effort got him 2-3 lengths clear before a late race stall. Probably not a Monsieur Chevalier but a perhaps a solid prospect for early conditions & Listed events. Channon often starts OR62-74 types in race and his pair here seemed to run in that manner. Iztacchiuatl first 2yo runner for trainer and found early pace difficult but stuck at without fading. Sticking on into faders late. Probably barely OR50s form so one to check rather than support unless finds a weak race. Pick A Little probably low OR60s at best and perhaps only OR50s long-term. In general a race where the first 4 seem to be the better ones and not obviously Open Maiden winner OR types outside the winner and ones to check in Paddock Review. Jibouti, for trainer C Brittain, ran badly and clueless and added to two poor runs by his pair of runners in the Brocklesby. Worth noting that the draw got considered by some pundits before the race. In Maiden races with a wide range of abilities and a lot of clueless runners the draw is a minor concern behind ability and mental preparedness. Even in later season Maiden races will settle down into a, small, group of 'Competitors' at the front and a tail of stragglers pretty quickly. |
