SUMMARY
Field race Far rail of far course.
The sort of race that after watching it you hope the jockeys on three of the 4 main contenders went back and said that did not work and we should try something different. Moore on Libranno allowed a comfortable lead and able to to control the race. Horse produce a strong effort and may well be the best of these but had the advantage of the way the race developed here. Able to produce better effort than Elzaam and going well enough to pick up again as Neebras closed up later on. Won with ears pricked and could have found more. Bigger build than Elzaam.
Elzaam appears to have a fluent action and has looked best when allowed to use it to get into a rhythm. The trainer reportedly does not agree the horse moves that well and is trying to make him into a hold-up horse. This did not appear to work here and the horse never really settled for the first 2F. Not able to produce forward effort of winner and appeared to be moving a little awkwardly later on. Still left impression he would be better allowed to get into a rhythm and lead if needs be. Sitting behind a good leader does not work after all. Notable point on day was the way the Coventry Stakes form seemed to fall apart and looks over-rated. Runner-up beaten here and the thrid well beaten int he later Conditions race. Ascot form not transferring elsewhere?
Approve again appear to be hanging left & holding his head to the right on the uphill section. Similar uncomfortable movement shown later on in Woodcote Stakes on the Epsom camber. Jockey not persist in final furlong as it was clear he was not moving well. Another, along with Elzaam, that was too free in early race at times when trying to be held up behind an average pace.
Neebras ran well having been held up off the ordinary pace. 2.5L back at halfway and managed to close up to the winner's (making 1.5L on him over 1.5f) behind as that one was not being fully pressed by jockey. Winner responded and Dettori let it go late on when he could see that and knew he could not progress further. Why not ride Neebras closer to the lead off that pace? How is he supposed to make up 2.5L+ on an unpestered leader who is not going to stop? Solid effort by him to close up as he did.
