Rail out 7 yards at 6f start narrowing down to 1 yard out by the finishing post. Trainer John Gallagher has managed a single 2yo win from 29 individual runners in the period 20020-9. That was with, in the fullness, high class older sprinter Mac Gille Eoin. That success was 6TO off a low OR60s after a lot of inconsistency. Several other horses have hinted at promise but trainer unable to convert it. Roman Dancer his second juvenile winner of 2010 and the successes have been 3TO & 4TO here and relatively quick conversions of debut promise. 28/1 just the wrong price for RD on the promise he has shown. Good example of how the pressure of the amount of racing forces people into short-cuts like dismissing horses with three duck-eggs from small stables. Solid debut in a tough race and the third later winner to come from the midfield of that race. Second run a write off with a bungled start and the jockey losing the irons. This allowed the horse to run too freely and he pulled too freely to the front. Again ran too freely 3TO over 6f in probably the toughest Auction race run this year. Pulled himself to the leading line and faded in the last 1F. Became the seventh later winner from the first 10 home in that race. Dropped back to 5f here and again ran a little too freely but able to finish the race off and helped by being headed by forcing Darwin Star (running too freely again) before halfway. Supercharged a strong debut for trainer Chris Wall and this usually informative. Runs a relatively small string and has a consistent record suggesting he runs a controlled strategy each year. His record with horses relating to debut places in interesting and links to this thorough control of smaller batches of horses. In the period 2003-9 he has had 4 debut winners and just 4 other horses have placed 2nd or 3rd FTO. All of those 4 have won with two STO successes and one each as 3TO & 4TO after placed runs in the interim. So Supercharged really out to be a 'winner waiting to happen' and would typicaly be OR80+ quality. To complete the story his 16 debuts that have finished in the 4th to 6th range have produced 7 winners and 9 non winners. The 52 debuts that have finished worse than 6th since the start of 2003 have produced not even one later winner. A trainer where the debuts seem to tell a lot about underlying quality. Cheers a mild Eyecatcher to check after an inconclusive debut (not a Chris Wall type one). Worth another chance after the problems at the start here got her well behind. Isuses partly her own fault because of a sloppy attitude but now has a couple of zeroes for her 'Form' and a can do better. Leant on the side of the stall here and a slow break, then bumped by one horse and then squeezed out against another that was also sutting across to her. Connections of Speightstown Kid lodged a WTRB report with the stewards saying the horse was unsuited by the firmer going. |
