Field race far rail. Moderate form from those with previous runs. Katell third runner of season and first winner for trainer with good record with 2yos. Debuts can be competent enough to win with right set-up and this the 3rd FTO success in last two season. Katell topweight in Auction and stood out in field as the biggest and a solid mover with it. Horse on it's toes and bouncy but in a good way. Fresh and in good condition. Trainer's 2yo winners often this freach and and in glowing condition and important to be able to recognise the difference between this and the sort of sweating, buzzy nuisance that many trainers turn out who will run poorly. Tom Eaves riding to add to the view this was an ok one. Green at times through the race and wandering about when asked to make his final effort. But plain too good for the rabbits. Should progress further and trainer has good record of getting multiple wins with 2yos. Saltergate a wiry rabbit but a full trier. Ran moderately last time from a wide draw in a much tougher race with a testing pace (on return from geting trapped in the stalls). Well drawn here and into leading line comfortably and back to his usual performance. TS adrift in a wild pace seller on debut and got back to the others as they faded badly so looking mildly eyecatching but at a dreadful rating level. Supported all day and favourite. Not given a Culhane style 'Today is the Day' as if any real money was involved in the puff. Slow break, allowedto drift back then struggled to get a run later on. Just an ordinary effort when clear. Trainer always had poor strike rates with juveniles and in the last 2+ seasons has managed a single win (with Hoof It who was too good not to win) .Targetted wins with older handicappers may be a big thing with the stable but extending that 'Belief' in touches to his 2yos has always been suspect even when he got a few wins each year. |
