Slow Pace and field spread over 6L at halfway despite that racing centre track. A lot of jockeys trying not to finish too close to the Stoute 'Good Thing' at the finish with the 'Literal Handicapper' watching. Race run in 0.88s faster than the selling Nursery but with this winner carrying 4lbs less than the OR62 rated winner. Interesting to see what OR the winner and second get. Take it literally against the Seller winner and it is just about a sub OR70 performance. But, this is an Open Maiden and the first two were clear so they will get OR75+ anyway. Which you can make work for Whaileyy on his debut form but what about Ahlaain? Hang on though, he finished fourth in a Newmarket where the winner got OR83 despite looking suspect. So Ahlaain is OR73 before this race is run. But, all three horses that finished in front of him at Newmarket have been beaten since and the has been well beaten twice. Ahlaain had better have some real improvement in him physically compared to what he has actually shown on the racecourse. On further thought, well done everyone from third back in finishing as far 'adrift' as you did despite the pace. A race for full professional jockeys whereby 'Whips shall be carried but very rarely used' except perhaps occasionally in a theatrical manner. The jockey on Algurayn used his for real and look what happened. OR70, Take That, sunshine. |
