SUMMARY
Meeting started with Official Going as GF. This changed to Firm after this, the first, race. Dry, sunny day. OR88 handicapper broke the 10f Course record later on the card. No wind and presume ground very quick.
Another race with a Strong pace after recent bout of this with going firmer at many meetings after wet start to season. Another David Evans' 2yo at the sharp end forcing things to add to a number that have run well but paid for racing too strongly in last 2 weeks. Scarlet Rocks & Style And Panache as examples. These have been close to fittest in each field and you think that 1 or 2 of them would already have won with less aggressive tactics. JFL better than expected in Paddock Review. Smaller than medium but not a rabbit. Some length to body and ok power behind. Has been backed twice and presume could rate OR70+ but vulnerable to OR75+ types who are ready enough or if he has softened himself up. Did best of the pace pressers. Has been supported on both runs.
JFL leading line early from wide draw racing centre. STTime a bigger, boatier model and fizzy in prelims and requiring two handlers. Free running in race and leading line next to rail. Filly Evening Dress just a neat, deep fronted, type of sire and seem a little overawed in prelims going from up-for-it to watchful. Attend pace here but fade early.
RDeVents at 1L off lead at halfway.
1st & 2nd in 6th (3.5L back) & 5th (2.5L) at Halfway with LL going ok and Orientalist niggled along. Typical race shape for strong pace with front line fading and winners coming from midfield. Fittest of frontrunners hung on best to stick with the two closers with RDV hanging badly left late on to add to the fades by STT & ED.
Head-on shows that STT hanging left before Halfway and unsteerable as if the bit had slipped. Hung across the Centre track and carried ED with him and slighty intimidating her. RDV getting little outpaced at this point and squeezed backwards out of the gap between ED & JFL as it closed due to STT hang.
Jockey Holland on LL take this opportunity to tmake effort and lead before 1.5F out. Look like winner but fading inside the last half furlong which allowed, hard working, JFL to close back to him and Orientalist to make 3L+ in the last furlong to catch him late. LL a smllaer, neat and ready type. Traine rused to be FTO Ready but had only had one debut winner in last 2 years. Perhaps the Bonus Scheme is getting him interested again.
Angle Light given a typically non-involving Meehan debut. Green at the start and allowed to flop along at the back looking stupid. Able to get into the faders shelled back off the pace group but never in the race. An ok bulky type and believable to be OR75 but not the better class types the trainer had started earlier in 2008-9. More Klynch's younger brother than Light The Fire. Neatness not there to match the bulk.
