Field spread out racing Centre to stands rail. Strong headwind on day and slower times. Below average pace here and help field to produce presentable result with bulk of field keeping together and lacking big gaps. Time only 0.15s slower than the Later Listed race carrying same weights. That field produced larger gaps back to the beaten horses and broke up in later race in a way this one did not. Compressed field at halfway with the first 12 within 2.5L of the lead but spead out across the track. Celebrity took a long time to get going and then went away inside the last 1F when switched to the stands rail. Others fading in centre track as well to assist effect? But, had been racing prominently and with no cover and strongest finish so showing something different. Sadafiya travel more comfortably than Celebrity from 2F in to move up to challenging position inside 1f out but then fading inside the last 1f. 8th at halfway and finishing 6th hides that forward move that got her to 2nd and a promising debut. In general the race had enough pace to fully test the field and to fold the prominent racers (Celebrity excepted) back into the pouncers and closers. Eshoog a perfectyl good run in that context making a forward effort off being a nose ahead at halfway to be 1L clear towards the last 1f. Overall quality of race perhaps suggest Sadafiya dropped back to be the Changeover Point with the Garbage Gap not huge but somewhere around Red Lite. Two of the fillies notable for making places late on although partly going past real faders. WN prominent early but lost ground mid-race through greenness. Took time to get going but plugging on late to get from 12th at 1f out to 5th. In general when looking at these results picking out the Hannon horses in the ruck as possible improvers has a better than average outcome. In 2010 the overall quality of their string seems to add to the confidence. Kalahaag a typical anonymous debut of an improver form recent years. Green early and losing ground. Then making places late on for minimal asking and eased early once enough 'education' has taken place. A facinating nugget in considering Folly Drove. She ran in a Goodwood Auction race which has produced a string of later winners and Goodwood debuts for the trainer often usable ones. She finished 7th and the first 10 home have produce 8 later winners. The exceptions are this filly (in 2 later runs) and Resposer (a John Best, unfathomable, career development 'project'). Interesting poser to consider whether Folly Drove finished amongst the later winners for some circumstantial reasons or whether she is ok. Take the second line you could say she failed to stay 7f STO and then what about this run? Apparently not able to go with the better ones 2f out but never quite stopping and given a reasonably quiet ride. |
