Somewhat baffling race. Stalls centre but field taken over to Stands Rail by SR soon after the start. Pace not look strong for first half of race and field compressed into 3L off the lead at halfway and BMoth had pulled into leading line with jockey unable to hold him up behind the average pace. Baffling because despite an ordinary pace the race fell apart with only the first two home finishing reasonably well. The other six ranged from tame fades to expiring completely with the last two home walking over the line. The final time for the race was only 0.15s faster than the fillies' maiden run 70 minutes earlier and the first 5 home in that event (including green newcomers) would have filled the gap back to the 3rd here on the times they ran. That race ran centre track mostly. First two here both have Softer ground wins to their name and perhaps explains part of the disparity back tot he others. |
