SUMMARY
Moderate quality Nursery on Profile depending upon what version of Alfraamsey turned up. Race run at just an average pace. A lot of rolling around (firm ground?) and bits of failing to settle in early race.
Race became a 2F+ sprint and fell apart to some extent and won by Miss Dutee who was the only runner to settle early, run straight and run a full competent race. Head down trying in the last 1f and a typically straightforward Hannon preparation horse which gives you what they have. Running off OR62 here (the benchmark OR the BHA guy would give an average seller winner). Has won a moderate race and not looked anything above OR60s on review. Ridden by a jockey who gets a solid number of rides but mostly on the duff ones. A Profile that suggests this was her day rather than expecting her to win off a higher OR mark.
JG bigger type if lacking quality. Appeared to improve for front-running last time and mostly confirmed that here. Unbalanced at times early on and racing with his head held to the right as the jockey tried to settle him. Still going forward at the finish and pedigree suggests 7f+ ok but faded when pressing on too hard at that distance last time. Perhaps needs to develop to carry his size for the full 7f and at about the right OR currently.
HT a classic example of 'Race Standardisation' handicapping and disregarding what quality of performance the horse has actually put up. Managed to win an Open Maiden last time by picking up the pieces after a Pace War had broken the prominent racers up and finished with a horse she is lesser quality than. But, the BHA will give OR75 to any Open Maiden winner (unless they have run a lot of time afterwards like Prophet In A Dream) so HT gets OR76 as a Godolphin owned one but at the lesser end of their scale. A poor favourite even in this race. No different in size and set-up to the OR60s ones. Runs an anonymous race even with a 7lbs apprentice sitting quiet and keeping her balanced enough.
Salvationist in his first Nursery for a trainer who sets horses up for targeted wins. STO in lesser Maidens for the right sort and 4TO in Nurseries for others. (He also does the 3yo 12f+ handicapper set-ups like Prescott). This one small and compact but probably usable off OR61 and some minor Market support. But has shown a less than willing attitude and more of the same here. Taking Time To Respond (TTR) when asked for his effort. Then sticking his head to one side and hanging. The Market would probably have had him competing for favourite if thetrainer had though he would compete and wa son the right OR to compete off.
Alfraamsey seemed to be on a usable mark of OR78. Being run a lot by Channon in a way which suggests he is expendable and they are just hoping to bump into races they can win with him. Has run poorly and packed it in early in two of his last three runs but either side of a likeable victory at Newcastle. But, that win was on the Magic Carpet next to the stands' rail at the course and a number of horses put up performances there running the rail which have disappeared afterwards. Hugely unreliable form from the Course. Another lacklustre effort here from a horse looking some mix of unwilling and uncomfortable. The type Channon just keeps running until they come back into some form and might be on a usable OR when (if) he does.
Some each-way support for Ridgeway Hawk and the trainer had a Nursery winner the previous day. But, with a horse who had shown more than this one. Trainer does tend to bring horses to a visible peak of condition and the winner looked in close to top mick. Presume a bit of that here and RH as ready as he will be but not good enough.
