SUMMARY
Slow time for GF but field weak on Profile. Field run wide of rail early and centre track downhill then over towards stands' side early in uphill climb before drifting left again. Typical small field for course made up of duff ones from small stables and moderate ones from bigger stables trying to find an easy maiden to win. PIAD the first Channon winner of year and yet another he seems to have had a role in breeding him. Runs for partnership at his local pub and redirected to, more suitable Brighton race STO after a 'Social Run' in a Newbury race down the road from the pub.
JH an early runner for David Evans and he typically starts most of his competitive ones in the first batches. If you check his debuts this year the recent ones have looked poorer kit. JH ran in 2nd race of year and would expect him to be competitive one at some level. Faded after getting involved in pace for poor race at Kempton.
A little support here but another Evans runner to race too freely and pay for that. Jockey niggle him early to get him to lead but then taken on by the lightweight filly Bold Deceiver. She pressed JH for the first half of the race and briefly headed him. JH see her off to 2F out and then made effort and respond to PIAD challenge. But stalling to the last half furlong and headed. Not see race out for having been taken on early and this finish uphill and race distance 69 yards over 5f.
PIAD show nothing unusual and presume lower OR60s.
Small filly SIP complete the Race Shape with settled 2nd rank through halfway in first two places with weak filly blown away and very fit Evans runner hanging on for a long time despite going hard. She was unable to go with JH & PIAD as they made their efforts and just plugged onto them in the last half furlong. Presume PIAD slightly idling and responded to her late on and finishing more strongly than her. Presume SIP OR50s long term.
Apprentice gave newcomer VLS an odd ride. Slow to get going due to being green and 6L off lead at halfway. Let her make ground on the downhill section to join the leading line after halfway. Lost ground gradually after that and beaten 7.5L at finish. In effect gained a little ground on JH over second half of race and lost 2-3L off PIAD. But, at least had the pace and balance to make the ground downhill when many horses struggle with it. Not collapse completely after that effort (as BD did after pressing lead for e.g.).
