SUMMARY
Stalls Centre & field raced centre track. Race set up for a closer with a widespread line of pressers forming up and subtlely reacting to each other. First six through halfway within 1L of the lead and travelling line abreast. The race between these six turned into a 'Southwell' type time trial with the horses mostly fading in order as they stalled and faded. Solid effort by Summer Jasmine to be a little green early then get to the lead overall and hang on best of the pressers. Smaller trier and low level form.
May's Boy never put in race on debut. Narrow bodied but taller in this group. More of a galloper and lacking some pace here. Trainer having good season with 2yos by his standards and this one looked more of a 7f+ developer for nurseries.
Sluggsy Morant running in trainer's colours in a season with a lot of unsold horses. Talked up by trainer in context of this race. Bigger and more solidly built than MB for example. Too green to produce a race here and this showed from the start. A slowish start and then taking time to get going. Then ran a little freely to make 2L up to get into the pressing line of 6. Head up as soon as asked to make an effort 2F out and dropping back and starting to hang. Eased by just into the last 1F. A too-bad-to-be-true run and reliable trainer who does judge 2yos ability fully at home. Some of support here though perhaps reflecting lack of strength overall.
Although the race set up for a closer the shape only produced one candidate.
Arctic Mirage 2L back at halfway having been held back out of the leading line. Has produced stronger finishes in previous races and making places to the finish. Has lack the nous and pace to sit close enough to get to the front in those events. With that background this race set-up well for him. Lesser quality affair and able to sit behind a line of horses wearing themselves out and then using his finish to go clear. Won a little comfortably and ears pricked at the finish and backing off trying to judge where the course goes as it dives down and left after the line.
CL adrift from early on and TD hanging badly left only MBSTime as the only other possible closer. Making some forward move inside 2F out but then blocked as a gap between two stallers opened & closed a couple of times. Plugged on through the faders to get to 4th but slow looking plugging on rather than a eyecatching effort.
