Stiff pace and field split into two groups early. Five horses went over to stands' rail early and running next to it before halfway. 6 left in the centre formed up into three pairs in line and had worked over to the Centre-Stands' strip by halfway. Centre group ahead of the stands' side leader (PT) by nearly 2L at halfway. Middle pair of the Centre three (ID & SC) line up with Perfect Tribute to halfway. Soraaya last overall on the Stands' rail at halfway at 5.5L off the overall leader. MD just under 4L back at that point. Two groups start to come together towards the last 2f as the Centre Group slightly went left and spread out. Rail group also spreading out. MDid trying to be held up to use her effort late after being run down her late on her last run. On inside of Centre group as they were about to merge and jockey had to make a brief effort to avoid gettting squeezed back behind the leading line. Overall the race seemed a stiff pace and the leaders in the centre faded early and all the runners had at least stalled by the line. Nothing travelling strongly in the last 0.5f. MDid travelling well 1.5F out and asked for her effort but less happened than was expected and less striking than in previous runs. Hanging right to the last 1f and not really going forward strongly. Jockey Hughes had said after beating MDid on Memory that he had tried to hang on to her as she made her effort then outstay her late. Soraaya effectively did the same here but with MDid setting less of a stiff target to chase down. Soraaya held up in last and an indication of how the race turned the race inside out by the finish with the stalling and fading unless ability could hold a hose further forward. Jockey Moore said to the trainer afterwards that Soraaya needed 7f. Helped by a tough 6f here. In the context of prominent racing causing horses to fade early a good run by Perfect Tribute leading the stands side group. Bigger type and running freely at times. Still tanking along towards the last 2f and perhaps one that can improve more than average for later 6f Group events. |
