Common Touch named by trainer earlier in week as useful and expected to put in a strong debut. Owned by the Chairman of York Racecourse. Green to a minor extent at various points in race and probably won a little comfortably. Good effort from Squires Gate after a rusty looking effort last time on return from a break. Different prospect here and pressing leader from the start. Hastled by MJ until she faded and then able to produce another effort when joined by the winner and go on strongly until a stall late one. Fahey not quite matching Hannon for scale and top level quality but has shown overall improvement. More runners, more winners and better quality overall. Always got FTO winners and these often produced a profit over 5-6f. This win brought his debut record in 2010 to 14 from 48 which is a a ridiculous 29% strike rate and well clear of his previous record for a complete season (8 x FTO wins in 2008). A solid profit so far following all debuts despite the Market cutting many debuts to shorter SPs. Number of runners has gone up notably in recent seasons with the total going 28-33-43-54 in the last 4 years. Which puts the current total of 48 individual winners before the end of July this year into context. He was the 20th ranked trainer by number of 2yo runners at the start of that sequence and up to 7th last year. Field race centre with leading pair 2.5L clear at halfway and field spread over 10L. Odd effects on days with field kicking up a lot dust making the races look like all-weather events. |
