Field cross to Stands-Centre strip in the straight. Comfrtable win for EW who has pressed the pace, within a neck of the lead through halfway, on previous runs and done best of the pressers each time and persisting better than average. Added issues of wide draw on debut and running around Lane 2 at Chester (a no-no) last time. Has looked ok OR84+ type. Allowed to set his own pace here and competent win. Anne Duffield seems to have developed a liking for debuts at Carlisle. Go back to 2006-7 and a single debut at the course in those years from 41 runners. That one was 'mighty mouse' My Valerina though and a second place at 6/1 on the way to a couple of 2yos wins for the 14 hand Lioness. 2008 saw 4 debuts at the course from 26 x 2yos she ran. Those four produced a win (at 14/1 for Firebet, yes that Firebet), and three places at 14/1, 20/1 & 33/1. Only one debut here in 2009 and unplaced. But supported from 25/1 to 12/1 on debut and proved an OK winner 3TO. Two previous debuts at the course this year had produced wins at 40/1 & 8/1 (for her 'Best' 2yo). Riverdale another solid type and bigger than the winner although more of a galloper and less straight 5f speed sort. But a solid type and would have won this from the rabbits comfortably without Earl Wild. These things can change but clearly a trainer who prepares the 2yos well enough at home to get FTO wins. Seems to have chosen competitive ones to come to this track to start out. |
