Rail out. Pace too strong and forcing line of three form up. FC & SIS drawn next to rail and break ok and make a pressing pair early. MajorM forced forward from wide draw and join these two and ran Lane 2 throughout. Pressure applied broke the race into 2 separate parts before halfway with one race between the forcing Line-of-3 stalked by strongly supported newcomer New Planet (going along settled on the rail). The other five under pressure in various ways with two adrift after 2F and the other three losing ground on the steept uphill section. MajorM ran better than result suggests and softened up by pace. Ok effort inside the last 2F and unable to respond to winner late on. NP another debut winner for trainer and also supported. FTO wins used to be rare. Stable out of form in earlier season and this only his second 2yo winner (both FTO). Lost a bit of ground at the start but this an advantage as he missed the pace and able to settle in comfortably behind the L-of-3. Green at time in the straight but bigger than the runner-up and always going to wear him down. SIS small and softened up by pace but third best of the pressers anyway overall. A timely reminder of how races like the Lily Agnes between early season nippy ones can be over-rated and just how much the later season races are tougher events (not how the BHA handicapper is allowed to see it). FC an ok size but not a taking mover. solid debut effort and ok forward effort until fading. Piceno a slightly boisterous character and needs to settle down a little. But, given another quiet time in the last 2f and the jockey working hard in the last 1F not to close up to the stalling pace forcers. Pulling the horse up before the line. That was his 3TO effort and he has 4TO Nursery Improver stamped all over him. |
