Puzzling race and not form that could be read literally. Pace look average, at best, but winner being challenged on the line by a small 50/1 chance who was more than 7L back at halfway. Key West last at halfway and not obvious he was facing his blinkers. Unbalanced on the turn to the straight and wobblying about off the back. Jockey has accepted that is that but without really asking the horse to do anything he finds himself trundling into midfield late on. PH had look unwilling at times in previous runs and given the full carpet beating here in the straight (unlike KW) and managed to get close to winning. But, still not a 'Fast' race that fell aprt. More subtle than that and a number of the horses failed to handle the track and therefore there was a fading 'midfield' for PH & KW to get into. Screenprint drawn next to the rail and handled the course well. Able to lead and set a usable pace. Made a brief effort downhill and got a break on the field. Handled the camber in straight and jockey delayed final effort until the last 1Fbeacuse nothing visibly challenging. This lull allowed PH to make some ground. Nothing visibly challenging because the horse that almost certainly is the best and should have won - Book Keeper got shut in behind Screenprint on the rail for the last 2F, Every time the jockey thought about switching out the leader rolled off the rail and tempted him with a gap on the rail. Switch to the rail and the leader rolls back and closes it. PH probably some form of lower OR60s type who improved for a battering but this is probably suspect form and rating. DB another small one and did not really handle the track. Comes from a Warwick race that is working out ok but he was probably the wrong side of some sort of Changeover mark there. Exchange a good size and looked to be going ok to 2F out. Another to fall in a heap and not handle the track inside 2F out and another reason why Turner on Secreenprint could delay her final effort. Dr Darcey never going as smoothly as Exchange but the jockey did nothing in the last 2F and the only excuse was the horse was rolling about and unbalanced. BP limited and failed to stay and not helped by being hustled along early to attend the lead. |
