Stalls Stands' Side. Field race stands rail with CG allowed to set a lead unpestered. 'Two Groups' at halfway with the first 5 within 3L of lead with MDan a little outpaced by a minor pace increase just after halfway. Other four newcomers 2-5L back of that group and not being ridden to win 'Today' unlike PM. Peter Martins hyped up as useful before race and ridden confidently by Dettori. Able to sit behind pace set by reliable CG and travel smoothly. Still a little green but going away for a comfortable win. Trainer undecided about future in interview afterwards. Did manage a wry smile at the mention of handicap marks (having beaten two horses with late OR80 marks by 5L receiving a bit of weight). Made it clear that he would be more than a little disappointed if PM needed to bother about nurseries in future. DS, C'N'B & Cadore all given similar educational intros. Hustled enough to be in midfiled and asked for efforts at 2f out and similar responses then mostly allowed to coast home when stalling. Most interest in DS as utterly clueless throughout the race and fat for his debut (strong barrel build but still tubby). Kept finding a solid response when hastled to do more or wise up. Solid promise. Trainer Meehan tends to be selective with the horses he starts at the Newmarket courses before August unless hastled by a major owner for a 'Social' runner. Three intended debuts at Newmarket in 2010 before this one have produced Listed winner Black Moth, taking STO winner Theysken's Theory and promising El Muqbil. CNB at the sort of SP to suggest an OR80s one at least and just about ok promise. |
