Field raced Centre track. Slower pace with first six through halfway within 1.5L of the lead and whole field at less than 4L. Race result you can read more than one way. Profile suggested a tight handicap and first 5 home within 2Ls and the next two withon another couple of lengths. The three lowest weights at longer odds well beaten off and not seeing the race out. Johnston staying development type wins from a Fahey filly who has looked too slow for 6f and trying 7f on her first go in a handicap. Favourite beats 2nd favourite from two major Northern yards. All very comfy, Next. But, worth thinking about a couple of other factors. Forget the rabbits and the first 7 home changed realtive positions very little. Compare the Lengths behind the leader at halfway with those at the finish and very few changes and most by less than a length. Rather than a tight handicap the type of result a slower pace and a 2F sprint between stayers lacking enough pace to separate themselves woul produce. More than a hint that the strip just towards the stands side from centre was the best and that was where SF ran with GB (who did as well as any in gaining ground halfway to finish but by being a little outpaced then clawing it back) behind him. Eland Ally hung away to the far rail and keeping tight under that rail seems ok. Running beyond Centre track seems a slight negative. A race to see how it works out and a bit more thought required than just reading it as pure 'Form'. SF despite the possible advantage a reliable grinder who will stay further. Ok size even if his Neck and head seem to come from a smaller horse. WIce clear winner last time but seemed to be beaten better types at the weights. Trainer Dascombe has said he thinks she is an OR80 filly (full marks for a trainer who will talk in 'Numbers' and not 'Nice Type' guff). The reviewer said OR74 would look about right for her in better form. This a much different test for her than skipping around a tight, left hand, AW track against lesser physical types. MMaker worth another chance to show he is ok off OR67 (or lower). Not a pace horse and never going to show up well starting 3.5L back in a 2f sprint. Beaten less than 4.5L at the finish and had rolled beyond centre track. Hint of a late race rade here but appeals more as an 8f Nursery type with a more even pace set-up. |
