SUMMARY
Race played out in a slightly puzzling manner. But, overall impression of a moderate Nursery and not a strong race. Pundits shouldn't be talking about '..ran in a Newmarket Nursery, which are always strong form...' about this race. Three 7f races for 2yos in a row on the card and this winner put up the worst performance overall and on time & weight comparision would not have placed in the following Seller. BLaw was the bottomweight and predictably no-one was jumping around saying the topweights always win the Nurseries afterwards. The close second was the topweight and he ran to a level which would have seen him fighting out for 4th in the maiden with newcomers. He clearly has a lot of conditioning & nous advantage over them considering the time he has been in full training and racing. So, a feeling of an ordinary nursery, lacking many progressive types and the higher weights may well end up going down in OR.
Look at the Halfway positions to final placings and the 5-7th through halfway got past the 1st-4th and, apart from Spartic, none of them seemed to run to their level or finish the race off. A strong pace perhaps and fading because of that? But, the pace looked average at most and the time slower than the maiden and only just quicker then the seller. Field only spres over 4-5L at halfway. Almost a race to split into two and consider as four horses running poorly for various reasons and a 2F+ sprint between the other 4 with the first three home managing to haul themselves past Spartic without any of them able to produce anything to separate themselves. A workaday trundle between early handicappers and not a race to take forward much.
The four poor runs summarise as HK supported but never going smoothly. Fallon niggling, driving & then using the whip very early and easing the horse into the last 2f. TRT small in the group and just looked too high in the handicap on physical scope. Star Surprise another suspect one at his OR and ran a little too freely and somewhat fizzy in the prelims. An OR70s profile on too high an OR, in a lower quality nursery, but not seeing he race out because of his attitude. PIAD hinting at being a Channon 2yo that gets down to a usable OR because of how often it runs and seemed to have found an ok mark around OR65. Pulled too hard for 2f in early race here. Travelled ok in the context of the race and looked like he might compete to win towards the last 1f but then stalling out.
Which left an unexciting bunfight between the first 4 home who are on usable ORs compared to each other but not against more progressive types. If they go up in OR for this 'Strong Newmarket Form' they are going to need to be lucky with the next Nurseries (i.e. find one full of horses on even less workable OR marks than they are) they run into to wangle a win.
