SUMMARY
You think about a 'Second String' system of some sort and this sort of fancy sidestep appears. Second Colours worn by a horse with the stable's 7lbs Apprentice on. So far, so good. But, opens up shorter than the the 1st colours with the stable's main jockey and the 2nd string is punted in to overall favourite. Then the first string wins who drifted in the betting but was top on Profile as the Godolphin 'preferred' in a race they won with Al Zir last year (a strong edition with Awesome Act & Togiak close up before you went past the Changeover Point).
Previous two years mixed with Wingwalker beating Delegator in 2008 and nothing much in it in 2007 except for Conduit (typically anonymous Stoute debut) in the midfield ruck.
Not a strong pace and main group, odd clueless stragglers aside, within 6-7L at halfway. But pace wound inside 3f out and later race efforts start a bit early with Biondetti heading the lead Muhandis (who ran much too freely in front) by 2.5f out. Winner a strong run to the finish although a little green alone in front but able to respond once challenged. Enough pace after halfway to feel the horses spread out by finish by ability. First 5 home clear into the last 1f and you would expect the gap behind them to be the Changeover Point. AL and HT (challenged for lead into the last 1f) stalling back towards the 6th+ finishers late to make the CPoint less obvious.
A lot of greenness behind and a race which will probably produce Open Maiden winners from the ruck. Obvious better candidates in Ektibaas & Audacious. The first was pretty clueless and offering to hang left for much of the race. But making ground later on most comfortably. Wearing the 3rd colours for Hamdan but, as with other owners, not to be taken as an indicator of a 'Duff' one. Owner's other runners were the second string who got a jump on the jockey in the lead and Lejaam who got a slow start and was too green to compete.
Audacious did nothing int he race other than demonstrate how clueless a lot of earlier Stoute debuts will be. But, a good size and, as Conduit proves to some extent as he ran a bit better in his year, anonymous trainer debuts for the 'right' owners are not a bar to substantial development potential.
A niggle about the Ratings level with the 6th & 8th longer SPs from smaller stables. But, behind the CPoint so see how they go. Sisindu a solid debut by Meehan standards and probably ok for Open Maiden level. Franciscan bigger type but too fiery and green here. Gave Fallon trouble to the post. Going too freely early then hampered by Ajtebi drifting on the winner (oh dear) after 2f and never got organised again.
