SUMMARY
Hand Time. Average pace after slower first 1f+. Field race Centre track and all within 4L of the lead at halfway. Leader pick pace up by 2.5f out on uphill section. Last three off the bridle (i.e. with the jockeys having not resorted to niggling along were Azrael, MOTM & Enabling with a toss up betweem the firs t& third which jockey moved last. Partly an indication of jockey styles and probably because MOTM had been punted and the jockey felt he needed to ensure he was not caught out.
Picture - of the finish
Interesting bunch and although not higher ratings a positive view on the first three home as towards the better end of Open Maidens and OR78+ and the gap back to others indicating something worthwhile. With the odd caveat.
Azrael taller type and more narrow bodied than typical of his sire. In good condition and trainer's 2yos now into full form and a stable that turns out high condition level horses that show the 'Form' level. Not rated higher in two tougher maidens because they were both slower pace affairs. Able to control the race here and some advantage for the lead but the strongest effort off it. Straightforward type and galloper. Can rate higher & OR82+.
MOTM an expensive 2yo purchase by a FS sire who is doing well. Looked the part. Strong build, good length and movement. Ready enough for the day. Ran well and mediumish build probably keep him in the OR80s.
Enabling made his debut in a strong Newmarket maiden where Hannon tends to send the best he has ready. Soul City & Emerald Commander have run it in 2008-9 for example. This year he ran two with Hughes on this one and Moore on Major Art (jockey seems to ride for that owner more than Hughes). Major Art has gone on to iron out a maiden field and finish a little unlucky 3rd in a Group race at Goodwood. On that basis Enabling was a little disappointing if you were expecting 'Major Art' or better. Medium, bit leggy, just average build. OR78? type sticker. Running third best behind a couple of better ones about right. Showed a good forward effort though so ok at his level.
HLuck disputed favourite but on the back of slightly suspect placed form. In each race the better horses were in front of him and those behind him unexciting. Some sort of internal Changeover Point. But, a likeable physical type. Strong and neatly made and seemed to carry himself ok at the walk. On the down side a sloppy attitude and not a tiuned in 'Racehorse' yet. Still playing at it. Given that his run was a bit disappointing. Look at the visoe and he seems to struggle to respond to the 2f efforts. Partly thinking about and perhaps not really stretching out. Perhaps the too are linked and he is feelign something. Never faded but plugged on for encouragement. Can do better if he can move properly and srtch out nad grow up a bit.
Each year trainer Hollinshead has a few placed runners with early debuts at long SPs. They often never progress and that debut place in an Open Maiden looks bizarre to 'Race Standardisation' types by season end. By then, they will be running in sellers on the AW or in Nurseries off OR61. 'Regressed from debut run' will be the phrase but probably bollocks. When you look at that type for the stable they are often rabbits who were hard fit for debut and well schooled. They ran to OR55 which was all that was needed. They are now competing off OR60 and have progressed from debut. Now, Restless Bay had that sort of 'Feel' about his form which would make a first time Review here a bit of a surprise. RB isn't a hard wound rabbit at all. Ok size, strong build and the problem seems to be that he isn't fit enough. Needs to tighten up to carry his weight. Ran too freely here but managed to produce an OK effort 2f out. Stalled and faded into the last 1f as you would expect on the readiness and free running. But, and ok OR74+ when fit and no rodent.
AD's relations have tended to be 8f+ develops projects and 3yo stayers for Dunlop and 'Win Only Handicaps' (Windflower OH). Odd shape and lacks any snap to his movement and another slower one for tomorrow, or probably a bit later.
Compared to AD then Bodie is a much more likeable prospect and ought to be OR70+. But, the trainer has difficulty turning these types into winners. She had her first 2yo winner fince Speciosa in 2005 this season with the race Whisper Louise. Bodie a bigger type and too fizzy and wilful. Trainer seems not to sort this type out unless they do it themselves. Bungled the break by a long way then pulled too hard for a long way. Some response later on given that and one to check NTO.
Interesting to see whether BTiger drops back to 5f NTO if he done enough to get a handicap mark and see whether he gets punted at all.
