Rail well out = probably 18yards at 6f start down to 7 yards at finish. Silks in Football team colours with Numbers on the back which related to nothing (card number, draw, etc). Oddly disorientating beacuse of that watching a group of fillies you know from shape, size and colours. Another unsatisfactory event with a slow pace cuasing various problems. Run a little quicker than the preceding auction race which had less able and experienced types. Slow pace mean three fillies noted as fighting for heads for long periods before halfway. SRocks able to get to the lead on the rail without doing anything. Her first go at 6f on her 12th run but a laboured effort and not looking in good form. Fading before the last furlong and causing a traffic jam as she stalled backwards. Worst sufferers being TSA & Atia who were taken out of the race. Add TFOS to the 'Scarlet Rocks' list of early enthusiasts looking jaded and fading out early. WAATP one of the hard pullers early and not see the race out. Which leaves a race between four 'Active' fillies for the day (plus a somewhat poignant feeling about how quickly 2yo racing can turn into 'Sprint Handicapping'). WLouise another full-on trier in earlier runs still giving it what she has but lacking the zip of her best runs. Did best of those running prominently but with the advantage of a clear run on the rail. NCS a small one with no scope and aided by the Race Shape and lack of zest elsewhere. Avoided all the trouble to get to a non-threatening 3rd with a centre run. Wotsthehurry similar unpromising trundle up the rail when clear through the general disappointing air. Which leaves a mixed feeling about Ishbelle. On one hand beating a set of precocious fillies, lacking scope, who didn't perform to their best overall. Take that reading and a rise in OR and stepping to a more competitive race an issue. On the other hand the biggest filly here and has scope to develop. Got herself from last to first in a slower race and going on strongest at the finish. Has finished all three of her races off well which is always a good sign. Up to 6f here but not an all out 6f test. On that reading not a forlorn hope at a higher level. For example, in the 6.5f Nursery at the Doncaster St Leger meeting. As often is the case a take somewhere between the 'extremes' the case for Ishbelle and can probably find something else to win. |
