SUMMARY
Tailwind in Straight. Going SHV previous day and slightly dried out.
GShine touted as better class before debut in Newmarket fillies maiden. Got to 9/4f on debut which was longer than Flashy Wings did for the same owner/trainer before winning and going on to Group success. Much shorter than Danidh Dubai for same connections for went on to blag a Group place without ever appearing to be better than low OR80s in other races. GS performance at Newmarket suggest intermediate ability somewhere betwen the previous pair. Made ok progress but without showing anything unusual.
Even with the excuses of a slower pace and softer ground here GS was wholly unconvincing as better class. Small size like the other two and although making a couple of lengths on the other pair when the efforts went 2F out no strong finish. Just plug on with the other two still in range if she had stalled. Now, we have been here before with horses like Majestic Desert in 2003 for the same owner & trainer. She won a moderate fillies' race at the course in late April from a filly that never won and a poor seller winner and got home by 1 length. She was small and ended up placing in the Cheveley Park. Trainer often right when he hypes these fillies even if it can take time to show properly on the course. But GS not really shaping like a better one in her two races so far.
Note that this is the second win from the later runners from the Newmarket race but hard to say it is being positively endorsed by the wins. This clearly an unimpressive win against very limited ability opposition. The runner-up to the other subsequent winner (Phoebs) has already been beaten in another event at Kempton. 4 other fillies have run from the race for one 3rd place.
