Strong pace with, from rail out, IAS/KOC/CG forming up in a Line-of-3 after 0.5f. FAve settled behind that line in 4th. Pace strong enough to spread field out and green ones adrift early. Range of physical types and sizes and pace put pressure on smaller fillies (and small colts like IAS) from before halfway. CG biggest and come across from wide draw to L-o-3. Press on at halfway and go 1L clear. Only FAve able to respond and she did this comfortably. Carried that effort throught o lead and go on for a comfortable win. Supported from 11/1 and comfort of finish and immediate response 2F out say she can compete at higher level and presume OR84+. CG fading later on having pressed pace. HK an Ok Size and worked through to clear 3rd without being fully pressed. First three clear and then a clump of horses from 4th to 10th made up of faders falling back to horses plugging on who had never been in the race. IAS a fading 4th at 1F out and end up 9th for example. This clump the wrong side of a Gap back from the front three so low form level. Would pick out a couple of efforts with Basilica 10L back at halfway and Jockey made a WTRB report to stewards that the horse ran green. Still inexperienced but responded onto back of stallers by 1.5F out and progress to a Volunteer 4th late after switching to centre track in two stages. Trainer Millman used to be a real 'Ready FTO' type but debuts often poor nowadays and horses improve notably to STO. Has already had a 14/1 STO win with a filly 'lost' on debut in 2010. Low level of form here but check NTO. Hannon's Magical Star drift in Market and probably OR60s to OR71 as maximum. But trainer tends to find moderate race for this type. Given an odd ride here. Drawn wide but held up to be able to cross behind the field to the rail after 1F. A little green and no immediate response inside 2f out as the leaders went on. Horse now in pocket on rail and jockey Hughes seemed to decide at an early stage that was that for today. Gave us a bit of his 'Rocking Horse' rider inside 1.5F out and eased entirely before the last half furlong. So, she is probably limited ability but better than 9th appears. While Hughes had settled for inaction on the rail Basilica came from behind her, had to switch around her & then veer RH and bump others and then plug on in centre track to 4th. Hughes had decided before the final furlong that either MS was incapable of that or it was not worth the bother and wait for STO (the sort of ride that has been mostly absent in 2010 with the spate of debut wins but common in previous years). |
